Tatiana Maslany won a well-deserved Emmy for her leading role in Orphan Black! There's not much I can say about this show without spoiling it for those who have never watched it.
If you do not know what this show is about, DO NOT read about it. Just watch the pilot blindly and let the main concept reveal itself to you. I was lucky to have no knowledge of the story when I first watched it, which made the Orphan Black pilot one of the best, most exciting episodes of TV I have ever watched.
Orphan Black airs on Space and has completed four seasons with a fifth coming soon.
The reason I decided to try it out was because the episode's tagline was very intriguing. All it said was: "Sarah, a streetwise hustler on the run from a lifetime of bad decisions, witnesses the suicide of a stranger who looks just like her." Space did well to keep this prologue short and sweet.
Interesting enough to warrant a download… everyone loves a feel-good story about someone trying to correct their past mistakes. Maybe poor Sarah is so traumatized that she sees the error in her ways, realizes how precious life is and embarks on an uplifting journey to discover that she is not really an Orphan destined to live in the Blackness of the mean streets…
The problem with joining the viewership of such great shows late in their run is that the networks and companies that produce them cater to their regular viewers first which means that the front pages of their websites, their TV promotions and online viewer comments expose what is happening in the latest episodes. Maybe these companies should stop wasting browser cookies on data mining and put them towards better managing their viewership.
I hate the invasive nature of the internet as it exists today, but I would certainly welcome a system where websites could tell that I have never been exposed to a particular show and "tailor the experience to my preferences" i.e. show me promos from season 1 Episode 1, not Season 6.
Anyway, Congratulations to Tatiana Maslany and everyone involved with Orphan Black. I am way behind in Season 3 so there's a marathon binge-watching session in my near future. Maybe I'll even go back to season 1 and watch it all over again...
